Patrick G. Forestall, 62, of 25 Twelfth St., Berlin, NH passed away on Friday May 11, 2012 at his home with his loving family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Berlin on September 23, 1949 the son of Raymond G. and Elizabeth (Kluchnick) Forestall and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Berlin High School, the NH Vocational Technical College and was a longtime iron worker, most recently had been employed by CCB, Inc. for 24 years. He was a member of Good Shepherd Parish, a former member of St. Kieran Church, a member of the Iron Workers Union and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Berlin. Pat loved to fish, enjoyed hunting, playing cards, spending time with his cherished family and friends, backyard gatherings, his work, sports and was an avid Yankees fan.

Members of the family include his wife Elizabeth (York) Forestall of Berlin; daughters Kelly Rigg of Berlin and Kimberly Forestall of North Conway; granddaughter Demri Rigg of Berlin; mother Elizabeth Forestall of Berlin; sisters Carolyn St. Hilaire of Nashua, NH, Sharon Bott of Henderson NV and Gail Doyon of Nashua, NH; brother Timothy Forestall of Berlin; uncles including Robert Litvin of Berlin, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday May 15, 2012 at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish at 11 AM. Interment will be in the St. Kieran Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a local food pantry or a local charity of one’s choice.

Richard E. “Rick” White, 81, of 29 Second St., Gorham, NH passed away on May 15, 2012 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, surrounded by his family. He was born in Berlin, NH on September 25, 1930 the son of Stewart J. and Evelyn (Willey) White and was educated in local schools. He served in the US Navy in New London, CT and at a submarine base in Key West, FL and then returned to the area. He had been employed by Currier Trucking, Crown Vantage, Red Wing Express and Adley Express. Rick was a member of Good Shepherd Parish, the Dupont-Holmes Post 82 American Legion in Gorham, was President of the White Mountain Riders Motorcycle Club and was an avid motorcyclist.

Members of the family include his wife Emelda M.(Bigl) White of Gorham, NH; daughter Marsha Morneau and husband Charles of Berlin, NH; son Stewart K. White and wife Claire of Berlin, NH: grandchildren Susan Goguen of Moncton, NB, Canada, Jason Morneau and wife Rachael of Planville, MA, Melanie Janasco and husband George of New Gloucester, ME and Holly White and fiancee Joel Lacroix of Berlin, NH: great-grandchildren Ava Morneau, Andrew Morneau and Landon Janasco; brothers Elmont White of Dallas, GA and James White of Lawrenceville, GA; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 19, 2012 at 11 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will be in the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen on Wednesday morning May 23, at 11 AM. Gertrude (Pellmann) Johnson, 87, of 243 Denmark St., Berlin, NH passed away on Wednesday May 16, 2012 at her home. She was born in Vienna, Austria on March 13, 1925 and came to Berlin in 1947. She had been employed at Converse Rubber Co., the Little Gypsy and then at the Northland Dairy Bar and Restaurant for 25 years. Gertrude was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was raised Roman Catholic while in Vienna, Austria. She enjoyed hiking, mountain climbing, the outdoors and being with her beloved family.

Members of the family include her husband of nearly 65 years, Melvin Johnson of Berlin, NH; children Ann McGrath and husband David of Nashua, NH, John Johnson and wife Sandra of Melvin Village, NH, Ruth Langlais and husband Gary of Loudon, NH, Gail Burlock and husband Harold of Berlin, NH, James Edward Kilbride Johnson of Hollis Center, ME and Rosemarie Chaloux and husband Jules of Berlin, NH; sisters Gert Tedorski of Erie, PA and Hanni Digleo of Florida; a step-sister in Austria; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 101 Norway St., Berlin at a date and time to be announced. There will be no calling hours. Roy A. DeCosta, 89, formerly of 19 Corbin St., Berlin, NH, passed away on Thursday May 17, 2012 at the Coos County Nursing Home in Berlin. He was born in Berlin on November 18, 1922 the son of Leslie and Maria (Riff) DeCosta and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Berlin High with the Class of 1944 and was a US Marine Corps Veteran. Roy had been employed by the Berlin Foundry, EMCA and was a longtime bartender at the White Mountain Post #2520 VFW. He was a member of the White Mountain Post #2520 VFW, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and the Holiday Center.

Members of the family include his son Alan DeCosta of Derry, NH and several cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday May 21, 2012 at 11 AM at the Mt. Hayes Cemetery, Promenade St., Gorham, NH. Edward V. “Pat” Ferrari, 88, of 40 Promenade St., Gorham, NH passed away on Monday May 21, 2012 at Weeks Hospital in Lancaster. He was born in Leominster, MA on December 23, 1923 the son of Antonio and Mary (Martin) Ferrari. Pat served in the US Army during World War II and moved to New Hampshire after the war. He worked at Brown Company as a mill right and shop steward and became President of the Union Local 75 and served for 16 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of St. Kieran Church and the White Mountain Post #2520 VFW. Pat liked to hunt & fish, enjoyed arts & crafts and loved to read newspapers and magazines.

Members of the family include his wife of 55 years Yvette (Robichaud) Ferrari of Gorham, NH; sons Edward V. Ferrari, Jr. and wife Louise of Farmington, NH, Jim Phair of Millis, MA; Michael Phair and wife Regina of Whitefield, NH and Harold Phair and wife Nancy of Berlin, NH; daughter Gloria Masters of Berlin, NH; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Paul.

Tazuru D. Eastman, 89, of 1 Pine St., Gorham, NH, passed away on Tuesday May 29, 2012 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. She was born in Yokohama, Japan on December 13, 1922 and immigrated to the US in 1952. Taz founded the Yokohama Restaurant in 1959 in Stark, NH and later relocated it to Gorham in 1964. She and Charlie built the “Yoko” into a successful local dining destination. She enjoyed checking in with her “Yoko family“, after retiring a few years ago.

Members of the family include her son Mike T. Eastman and wife Nancy of Parkville, MO; daughters Laura Towle and husband Samuel of Gorham, NH and Lynn Tremblay and husband Michel of Gorham, NH; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and family residing in Japan. She was predeceased by her husband Charles E. Eastman.

Emeline H. “Sis” Chatigny, 90, of East Side River Road, Milan, NH passed away on Saturday June 9, 2012 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. She was born in Milan, NH on July 7, 1921 the daughter of Michael Cleary, Jr, and Georgia (Wheeler) Cleary and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Berlin High and had been employed as a clerk at the storehouse at Brown Company and James River, retiring in 1983 after 30 years of service. She enjoyed traveling and had visited many places, including Ireland, London, Hawaii, Jamaica, the Canadian Rockies and many U.S. States. Sis also very much enjoyed her time spent with her two grandnephews Cullen and Connor. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening and shopping. She was a member of St. Kieran Church.

Members of the family include nieces Mitzi Riley Fortier of Milan, Karen Cayouette of Milan, Suzanne Beroney of Manchester and Martha Manni of Manchester; many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo P. Chatigny, in 1989 and 2 siblings Carlene Cleary Riley and Arthur Cleary.

Armand A. Patenaude, 89, of Madison Ave., Berlin passed away on Monday June 11, 2012 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. He was born in Fitch Bay, PQ, Canada on February 1, 1923 the son of the late Henri and Lena (Lafleshe) Patenaude and came to Berlin in 1947. He moved to Florida in 1968 and returned to Berlin in 2004. He had been the owner of Patenaude Motors (Chevrolet-Buick Garage) on Glen Ave. for over 20 years. While in St. Petersburg, FL, he was employed for 18 years by Sherwood Arms Apartment Complex. Armand was a member of Good Shepherd Parish, the Lions Club, where he was past President, the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, the F.O.E. in Berlin and was a 10 year member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Members of the family include his sons Norman Patenaude and Richard Patenaude; daughter Helen Davis; 5 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister Gertrude Lafia; nieces, nephews and cousins; his former wife Irene Patenaude; stepdaughters Sharon Stephenson and Susan Gingras; stepson Gary Dube; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother Rene Patenaude in 1968.

Roland E. Morneau, Jr., 69, of Londonderry, died peacefully after a brief illness, Saturday June 16, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at the Community Hospice House of Merrimack. He was born April 12, 1943 in Berlin, NH and was a son of the late Roland E. Sr., and Reseda (Lebel) Morneau. He was raised and educated in the Berlin area and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Colby College, and Boston College School of Law. Mr. Morneau was a member of the Notre Dame and Colby College Varsity Hockey teams. He was a Zeta Psi Fraternity member, at Colby College. He graduated from Boston College School of Law, Cum Laude, in 1972, and was a member of the Order of the Coif.
Mr. Morneau served his country from February 1966 to January 1969, as a Lieutenant in the US Navy aboard the USS Springfield, flagship of the 6th fleet. He was an Attorney and partner with Grinnell & Bureau Attorneys at Law of Derry and an associate of Attorney Brian Germaine from 1972 to 2011. Mr. Morneau was also involved locally as a member of the Londonderry Planning Board from 1979 to 1985. He was very proud of his service with the Public Protection Committee, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the NH Bar Association for his efforts. He enjoyed hiking, biking, tennis and other various outdoor activities, and was a proud member of the AMC 4000 Club for successfully climbing all of the 4000 ft. peaks in New Hampshire.
Family members include his wife of 45 yrs., Janet (Morse) Morneau of Londonderry, a daughter and her husband, Tracey and Ryan Gamache of Bedford, one grandchild Alex Gamache, a brother, Denis Morneau, of Burke, VT., one sister, Suzanne Morneau Francisco, of Kirkland, WA, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Tomlinson.
After cremation, memorial calling hours will be held Tuesday June 19th from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday June 20th at 10am at St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. BERLIN – Edith Birt Dalsimer, 98, passed away Saturday evening, June 16, 2012, at the Coos County Nursing Home in Berlin.
Mrs. Dalsimer was born in Berlin, NH on January 6, 1914 daughter of Temple and Mary (Bass) Birt.
Edith was a current resident of Berlin and was a graduate of Berlin High School. Prior to returning to Berlin, she resided in California for many years. She worked in Interior Design and was a member of St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish and a past member of Androscoggin Valley Hospital Auxiliary.
Family members include two nephews Clifford Carroll and wife Marie of Rome, NY, and George Carroll and wife Christine of Bradford, MA, three nieces Sue Potter and husband Wentworth of Chesterfield, MO, Elizabeth Roy and husband Vaughn of Berlin, NH and Kathleen Bergeron and husband H. Edmund of N. Conway, NH, two sisters Emma B. Garneau of Berlin, NH and Alice Wheeler of Berlin, NH, 9 grand nieces and nephews and 17 great-grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jack Dalsimer, a brother Leon Birt and a sister Leona Birt.

BERLIN, NH – Robert M. Rodrigue, 82, of 135 York Street, a devoted husband, special father, and grandfather passed away unexpectedly in the company of those he loved the most on Sunday evening, June 17, 2012.
Mr. Rodrigue was born on January 6, 1930 a son of George and Mamie (Gagne) Rodrigue. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and a lifelong resident of the area. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service for 34 years. He was also a member of St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish.
Members of his family include his wife Antoinette (Demers) Rodrigue; his son Robert G. Rodrigue and his wife Sandy Rosenberg of Berlin; his daughter Pauline Aldrich of Sugar Hill, NH; his grandchildren Robert R. Rodrigue of Keene, NH, Melissa Wedge and husband Mike of Berlin, NH, Tanya Rosenberg of Berlin, NH, and Jamie Lavigne of Sugar Hill, NH; three great grandchildren Maya, Macy and Marlee Wedge; sisters Jeannette Mainguy of Lancaster, NH and Irene Bergeron of St. Augustine, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish in Berlin. At the family’s request there will be no calling hours. Wilson’s Mills, ME: Mama got her wish and died at home after a long battle with old age. Born on a summer’s day to loving parents, she was the eleventh child of fourteen Olson children. Seven boys and seven girls. She grew up on a family farm that was also the post office in Wilson’s Mills, Maine. She attended the two room schoolhouse in town and later went to Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine. She worked summers at Nason’s sporting Camps on Aziscoos Lake, cooking and cleaning. Later years she worked in Indiana at an old ladies home taking care of the elderly. During the war she worked in a factory in Mass. making parts for airplanes. She also worked at a soda plant in Rumford that her brother Clifford owned. She married Robert Moody in Oct. of 1948 and together they built their home next door to the farm while living in a tent on the lawn. One infant daughter died, but three more daughters followed Louise, Elaine and Lorraine. Many family memories were made fishing and swimming on Aziscoos Lake. Hazel loved to feed the deer and birds. She grew many vegetable and flower gardens and was too good of a cook. Robert died while plowing snow in 1995. Elaine married Eddie Barnett and lived on the family farm but died in a tragic accident in 2005. Louise married Luc Cote of Errol and Lorraine married Mike Turner and they live in Wentworth Location. Hazel loved her seven grandchildren and all her great grandchildren. She is survived also by her brother Warren Olson of Lancaster, NH, a sister and brother-in-law Irene and Mark Sweeney of Lunenburg, VT and many nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed by her family and her cat Hannah. We love you mom…. go with God.

SERVICES: A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday afternoon July 3, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin, NH, with the Reverend David Smith officiating. Maurice J. Bugeau, 84, of 415 Church St., Berlin, NH passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 1, 2012 at his home, with family members at his side. He was born in Berlin, NH on Aug. 30, 1927 the son of the late Felix and Rose (Boucher) Bugeau and was a lifelong resident. He was educated in Berlin Schools and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School with the class of 1947. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War 2. Maurice had been employed by the Brown Co. and James River Corp. as a Millwright for 39 1/2 years, retiring in 1990. He also worked part time as a meat cutter for Blanchette Brothers and Morrissette’s Market. He was a communicant of Good Shepherd Parish and a former member of Union Local #75.

Pete W. Keddy, 49, of Northside Road, Stark, NH passed away on Wednesday July 4, 2012 at his home. He was born in Exeter, NH on July 27, 1962 the son of James William Keddy, Jr. and Linda Jean (Clay) Keddy and came to the area in the 1990’s. He had been employed by Corey Mason as a truck driver. Pete loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, auto races with NASCAR and the Riverside Speedway in Groveton. He was well known for his quick wit and upbeat personality. He was the best dad that his children could have asked for and he will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Members of the family include his children Sarah Keddy of Old Orchard Beach, ME, John Keddy of Stark, NH and Meagan Keddy of Stark, NH; his brother Gerry Keddy and his half-brother Chris St. Laurent of South Carolina. He was predeceased by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday July 10, 2012 at 2 PM at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on July 10 from 12-2 PM, prior to the service. Online guestbook at www.bryantfuneralhome.net.

Velna E. Perry, 92, died Monday July 9, 2012, at the Coos County Nursing Home in Berlin.

Mrs. Perry was born in Berlin on June 9, 1920, a daughter of Giles and Elsie (O’dell) Treamer.

Family members include a sister Prudence Treamer of Berlin, three nephews, Giles Hertz and his wife Dr. Rebecca White of Apolo Beach, FL, James Hertz of Alexandria, KY and John Hertz of Berlin. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Perry, an infant daughter Melody Perry, two sisters Leona Hertz and Doris Treamer.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 1 PM at the Old City Cemetery, Berlin.

Kenneth R. Vashaw, 54, of Pleasant St, died in Jackson on Monday July 16, 2012 of injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Vashaw was born in Berlin on July 20, 1957, a son of Walter and Calista (Adair) Vashaw.

Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Berlin, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Family members include a sister Sandra Belanger and her husband Victor of Berlin, his uncle Ken Adair of Colorado, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Michael Vashaw and a sister Janet Ientile.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Laura Lee Viger, 55, of 554 Second Ave., Berlin, NH passed away on Tuesday July 17, 2012 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. She was born in Berlin on October 8, 1956 the daughter of the late Richard E. and Yvette E. (Ruel) Viger and was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of Berlin High School and UNH. Laura was employed by the City of Berlin for 37 years, in several capacities and retired as the Director of Community Services. Laura was a past recipient of the Sylvia Evans Award in 2011 and the Laura Lee Viger Botanical Garden was named in her honor. She enjoyed time with her family and friends, painting and serving her community. She helped organize many worthy causes, including her involvement with Special Olympics, the Michael Durant Welcome Home Celebration, the candlelight vigil for Randy Rosenberg, the new running track and field at Berlin High School, girls softball and hockey, the Riverfire and the down town sculpture park.

Members of the family include 2 brothers Richard Viger and wife Diane of Concord, NH and Joe Viger of Freedom, NH; nephews Bridger Viger, Turner Viger, Richard D. Viger and his wife Molly; great nephews Matthew and Shawn; an aunt, an uncle, cousins and many friends.

A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday July 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Berlin Recreation Department, First Ave., Berlin. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Friday from 4 to 7 PM. Interment will be at a later date in the St. Kieran Cemetery. Anyone who wishes may make a donation to a charity of one’s choice in her memory.
